About Me

Sandi Farrell, LCSW-S

I am a relational therapist who helps individuals and couples decode the patterns that keep them stuck. With a background as a former attorney and a mother of four, I combine a sharp analytical mind with a grounded, empathetic approach. Whether you are seeking to break long-standing personal patterns, strengthen a partnership, or navigate the difficult transition of a divorce, my goal is to help you understand where you’ve been so you can decide where you’re going.

My Therapeutic Approach

1. Theoretical Orientation
I look at psychology through a developmental lens, exploring how your early history and attachment experiences may have shaped the way you relate to others and yourself today. Whether I am working with an individual or a couple, my philosophy centers on helping people step out of reactive cycles so they can communicate with clarity, foster mutual respect, and build balanced, healthy partnerships. At the same time, I am deeply anchored in values-based, cognitive frameworks that prioritize psychological flexibility and help you live intentionally in the present.

2. Therapy Style
I come to every session with openness and curiosity, working alongside you to identify the systemic patterns that are often hard to see when you are in the middle of a crisis. Therapy with me is insight-oriented, helping you connect the dots to understand why certain triggers or relationship dynamics rooted in past experiences feel so persistent in the present. Together we then translate these insights into actionable skills. Sessions are primarily client-led and unstructured – I will only give homework if you want it, but will also have recommendations for further learning!
3. Change Process
The change process begins with an exploration of your life history to discover the default defense mechanisms and relational habits that might be holding you back. Once we understand how these patterns developed, we shift toward active skill-building to help you manage distress and change your behavioral responses in real time. This combination of self-understanding and practical action allows you to step into a more conscious way of relating to others and develop greater self-efficacy.

4. Techniques & Modalities
I draw from attachment-focused and psychodynamic therapies to explore relational patterns and early life influences. For relationship-specific work, I utilize Relational Life Therapy (RLT) principles and Gottman Method skills to help individuals deepen their understanding of relational dynamics and couples transition into conscious, mutually rewarding partnerships. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to restructure unhelpful thought patterns, alongside Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support mindfulness and value-driven choices. I also incorporate a holistic wellness framework that actively addresses the physical foundations of mental health (including sleep, nutrition, and movement).
